Art
The art instruction at CCS goes far beyond the typical elementary program. CCS students go to the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Art Festival each year and have won numerous awards. In 2006, CCS submitted 26 pieces and won 24 first place ribbons at the ACSI Art Festival. The work of CCS students is displayed at various venues including the Conroe courthouse, the South Montgomery County Branch of the Public Library and The Children’s Museum of Houston. CCS art instruction covers the elements of art and principals of design using problem solving to create art. Students discuss artists and how the artists use various elements to create their art. They also use correct art vernacular to critique their own works.
The mediums used in the classroom include weaving, sculpting, acrylic, water and tempura paints, three-D art including ceramics and paper mache. Children create mono-prints, scratch art, mosaics, stamp art and draw with inks, markers, pastel pencils, charcoals and colored pencils. The older students are required to research an artist, write a paper, which is presented to their peers, and create an art piece based on the artist they have researched. To further promote the art culture with student, each spring artwork is showcased for parents at the CCS Evening with the Arts.
