Art teacher Nancy Stockhausen has been a member of the CCS team since 2003. A graduate of Moorehead State University, she earned the Promise Award for academic achievement and was selected as a student recruiter. Prior to coming to CCS, Mrs. Stockhausen taught pre-school and 3rd grade. A published artist, she has taken CCS students to the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Art Festival each year, winning numerous awards. In 2006, CCS submitted 26 pieces and won 24 first place ribbons at the ACSI Art Festival. Mrs. Stockhausen finds numerous venues to display the work of CCS students including the Conroe courthouse, the South Montgomery County Branch of the Public Library and The Children’s Museum of Houston. Mrs. Stockhausen discusses the elements of art and principals of design in her classroom, using problem solving to create art. Students discuss artists and how the artists use various elements to create their art. They also use correct art vernacular to critique their own works. The mediums used in her classroom include weaving, acrylic, water and tempura paints, three-D art including ceramics and paper mache. Children do mono-prints, scratch art, mosaics, stamp art and draw with inks, markers, pastel pencils, charcoals and colored pencils. The older students are required to research an artist, write a paper and present to their peers, and create an art piece based on the artist they have researched. To further promote the art culture with students, each spring Mrs. Stockhausen showcases the students’ work for parents at the CCS Evening with the Arts. Mrs. Stockhausen is active in her church congregation, is married and has four children, three boys, 12, 16 and 18 and a married daughter.
